The most recent Interzone includes a full-page review of my short novel Bethany. Here's the final paragraph:

Bethany2

I say a little about how I came to write Bethany at the end of this (be warned, quite long) blogpost on Endo's great novel Silence. It's the last three paragraphs, so you can scroll down to those if you like. Or not.

I read this novel recently and enjoyed it. I was wondering whether the protagonist's name is a reference to Marine Todd, the right-wing urban legend about the marine who shows the smug atheist professor what-for. Would be an amusing juxtaposition.

I enjoyed inhabiting briefly the fruitful waste of Bethany. I wish it had been longer though.
( I found the blog post, linked to, not nearly as long as you trailed it to be).

What would Christ have done ?

Well, he had a somewhat mixed record of humanitarian intervention: Put back on, and healed, the ear of Peter's victim; consoled one fellow crucifixee, but not the other.
